Why ART?
It’s FUN, helps you de-stress, allows you to make new friends...People who study the
arts are taught to see better, to envision, to persist, to be playful and learn from
mistakes, to make critical judgements and justify such Judgements.
The arts promote the idea that there is more than one solution to a problem, or more
than one answer to a question. People with Increased exposure to the arts have a
greater understanding and appreciation of their culture, history and environment.

Students would need to bring any kind of functional wares, as my techniques are
primarily for pots.
In this workshop intermediate and advanced glazing techniques - which incorporate
mostly dipping and pouring -- will be taught and will yield a variety of motifs. These
different images will be created using a number of glazes, often in combination with
wax and tape resists. Several glazes will be applied to a single piece with the goal
of incorporating the imagery and form in a harmonious way. Imagery will in some
cases be abstract, such as melting bands of color or geometric shapes, and in other
cases, natural images of flowers, trees, leaves, and entire landscapes will be created.
The full palette of glazes will include bright colors, earth tones, and neutrals, and will
be used in a controlled way to explore different color schemes and create a
distinctive look. Not only will the instructor demonstrate and fire works that will be
critiqued during the workshop, but students will also be given time to try out the new
techniques. Helpful handouts with glaze recipes included will be provided -- the
workshop is packed with helpful and technical information for getting good and
reliable results. Discussion and glaze table set-up and firing procedures will also be
covered. Please bring 10-12 bowls, plates, no vases
