materials to create hands-on art projects that stimulate the imagination and open
the door to exploration of reading, history, science, music and other cultures through art.
Folk Art (August)
We will take a multicultural look at folk art from Mexico and other countries. By incorporating modern papermaking techniques,
Students will incorporate radial designs or animal motifs inspired from indigenous art.  Also, we will look at famous folk artists like
Howard Finster and create garden stepping stones made from concrete and found/recycled objects.

Art Around the World (Sept)
Paint, sculpt and color your way through the world of art. Beginning with prehistoric cave art, explore different cultures and learn their
contributions to the world of creativity. Kids discover different methods of artistic expression and create their own works of art. We’ll
paint, sculpt, make collages and more.

Clay Works (Oct)
Explore all the ways to have fun with clay without the use of the wheel. You will create mugs and bowls, sculptures and tiles using
handbuilding processes such as coils, slabs, molds and pinch pots. You will also learn about firing and glazing. This is a great camp to
explore all the possibilities of building with clay.

Painting to Music (Nov)
While listening to Mozart, Bach, Handel, Armstrong, Ellis campers will paint what the music is telling them. We will discuss the music and
their paintings

Drawing to Shakespeare:
Children will learn about Shakespeare and will have a play read to them, from the Shakespeare for Children series. We will discuss the
play and draw out different scenes. Once we have completed the play and the drawings each child will create a book of their drawing to
take home and read to their family.

Printmaking (Jan)
Explore basic block printing, stamps and found object printing and even the printing press as you create your own edition of fanciful and
colorful prints on paper as well as a t-shirt. Learn to use a variety of materials as you design and create.

Wet and Wild (Feb)
Anything goes in this fun art camp - anything that involves water! From tie dye to watercolor painting and papermaking, learn how
creative you can be with watery materials. Each day is a new activity so dress for mess and be ready to have a good time!

Ordinary to Extraordinary: Recycled Art (March)
Campers will take everyday items and re-invent them into beautiful works of art. Campers brainstorm design options, construct,
decorate and finish the objects brought from home

AZTEC TILES (April)
Learning Objectives: Identification: Students will be directed to observe the shapes and lines that make up Aztec sculpture.
Historical:  Students will learn about Pre-Columbian art as they discover the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas.
Creation: Students will create a small scale Aztec tile using clay and glass
Appreciation: Students will learn to appreciate the art created not only by them, but by others as well

Artist's Choice (May)
This is for the young artist who wants to use a variety of art media.  Each camper chooses a few art activities and is given substantial
time to explore them in depth. Choices may include clay design; painting with watercolors, acrylic paints; tie dying; drawing with pencils,
charcoal or pastels; print making; and more.

Beads, Beads, Beads!
This camp is an introduction to the wonderful world of beading. Beading in a group is fun; sharing ideas and seeing one another's unique
beaded creations turns beading into a party. Participants will learn the different types of beads and beading materials; color theory; and
the aesthetics of designing beautiful bead jewelry. Campers will learn how to use clasps, pendants, head pins, and more.  Each beader
will make several types of bracelets, earrings and necklaces, including charm bracelets and illusion necklaces. Personal variations will
be added when young artists help themselves at "the bead buffet."

dyes, create a colorful scarf, and much more!
