Pottery is one of the oldest human technologies and art-forms, and remains a major industry today. There are several methods for making ceramic pieces. A ball of clay is placed in the center of a turntable or ‘wheel.’ The wheel rotates rapidly while the solid ball of soft clay is pressed, squeezed, and pulled gently upwards and outwards into a hollow shape. This class is for beginners but will also serve as a refresher course. We will explore the basics of centering the clay and forming shapes such as a cylinder and continue to mugs and small serving bowls. No experience required. (minimum 4 students, maximum 6 students)
