Pottery

Beginners will learn basic wheel skills: centering, opening, pulling, shaping, trimming and finishing, as well as glazing. As a beginner, you will be making variations on the basic cylinder, such as mugs, vases, and bowls. The intermediate/Advanced students will be learning more advanced functional and decorative projects such as dinnerware, lidded jars and casseroles, goblets, two-piece vases, lamps, etc.

BEGINNING POTTERY:

Pottery is one of the oldest human technologies and art-forms, and remains a major industry today. There are several methods for making ceramic pieces. A ball of clay is placed in the center of a turntable or ‘wheel.’ The wheel rotates rapidly while the solid ball of soft clay is pressed, squeezed, and pulled gently upwards and outwards into a hollow shape. This class is for beginners but will also serve as a refresher course. We will explore the basics of centering the clay and forming shapes such as a cylinder and continue to mugs and small serving bowls. No experience required. (minimum 4 students, maximum 6 students)

Try Encaustic

Find out how to use beeswax as a medium for painting. Encaustic is a combination of heated beeswax and dammar resin. Come to the classes and learn the translucent, sensual, fun and surprising qualities of this ancient medium rediscovered with the latest tools and equipment. In this comprehensive class you will learn this technique.

Try Encaustic Again

This class is for students that have taken Try Encaustic. You will be given all the supplies to experiment more with this medium. You will need to bring your own painting panel, board or wood. Rebecca will be on site for questions or assistance.

RELIEF PRINTMAKING I

Learn basic relief printmaking skills as you carve your creative images into linoleum and wood blocks. Then learn how to ink and press your blocks in editions of 5 to 10. Designed to be an entry-level class, relief printmaking is a great opportunity to begin or continue one’s artistic development.

FACE MUG CLASS

The face mug workshop taught by potter, Bruce Bley, of Wild Child Arts. The class will consist primarily of students who had never touched clay before. Each student choose a mug, which will have been thrown on Wild Child Arts wheels for them prior to the workshop. During two hours of detailed instruction, each student sculpted and applied facial features to their pottery. The results will be wonderful face mugs.

Bruce’s expert instruction to sculpt your own masterpiece mug. Bruce will then attach the perfect handle to your mug, glaze and fire your mug and return it to Wild Child Arts for you to pick up or ship. The finished product will be ready in a couple of weeks. Mugs are Dishwasher and Microwave Safe. Great way to get a jump start on your Holiday Gift Giving! If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Bruce then you already know what a fun, charismatic person he is and how much you will enjoy this class! Class includes all materials and firing. (Shipping is extra if you will not be able to pick up your finished mug) You may create more than one mug. Please keep in mind this is a 2 hour class and that may limit your ability to make more than a couple mugs. We will offer more classes with Bruce in the future so you will have more opportunities to create mugs! Class is open to all ages. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
