| Why ART? It’s FUN, helps you de-stress, allows you to make new friends... People who study the arts are taught to see better, to envision, to persist, to be playful and learn from mistakes, to make critical judgements and justify such judgements. The arts promote the idea that there is more than one solution to a problem, or more than one answer to a question. People with increased exposure to the arts have a greater understanding and appreciation of their culture, history and environment. |

Helping Paws Rescue Presents the 2008 Rags to Riches Silent Art Auction Featuring Live Celtic Music! It's time for our Rags to Riches event! Each year Helping Paws Rescue holds this event to raise money for the animals in our foster program. Each year Georgia artists donate art to be on display and auctioned at the event. Pieces range from hand-carved wooden pieces, black and white photos, watercolors and so much more. The art gets better and better every year. This is also our chance to dress up and enjoy the company of old and new friends. This year the event will be held downtown at The Georgian, Athens, catered by Trumps. We will have light appetizers and a cash bar (perfect time of the day for mimosas!) We are also excited to have live Celtic Music during the auction. We encourage you to come out and support Helping Paws Rescue, see some great art, mingle with friends and enjoy great food. Read about Cassidy, She's one of the reasons why we support Helping Paws in every way we can. Cassidy - Bio Updated 8/21/08 In the middle of June a brand new employee came walking in with a lame puppy in her hands. The puppy was laying limp and was uncontrollably peeing and pooping (later we discovered was from the pain.) This employee saw this small puppy on Atlanta Hwy near the Pepsi plant just hit by a car. This is another one of those stories that lets you see God's work in even the small things. This employee only worked for us about 1-week, just enough time to bring this puppy into our lives and to basically save her life. Cassidy was rushed to Mars Hill Animal Hospital. It was discovered that one of her back legs was crushed. Not just broken, but crushed so bad that she needed surgery to insert a pin. After a day at the hospital is was also discovered that she had 2 broken ribs and due to the fluid in her lungs they would have to delay surgery until she was stable. After a week and a half they successfully had surgery to place the pin in her leg. Mars Hill kept Cassidy with them for an additional two weeks so they could keep a close eye on her. We are blessed that Dr. Gross gave us a substantial discount on everything. It was $1,000 for what would have normally been almost $4000. They didn't even charge for her time with them. They are even going to spay her included in this amount. Thanks to our supporters Helping Paws Rescue had the funds to take care of the surgery. Cassidy is now here at Pawtropolis. Though she was quite terrified upon first arrival, she now loves the attention she gets from the staff. She is about 4-5 months old and will weigh less than 40lbs once full grown. She looks like she could be a scottie mix. She has black terrier hair, scruffy face and short little legs. We are guessing that she probably has never had a home. She definitely didn't get the socialization she needed during her first months. This makes her very nervous in new environments and nervous being handled. She just needs a home where they will be patient with her and continue to teach her and show her new things. Update: Cassidy is a tomboy with a heart of gold. She is highly intelligent and learned to sit, down and roll over within an hour. She loves to play and will give lots of kisses. She has all the puppy energy with some to spare, but when that is spent she is a true lap dog. She can be a bit sneaky at times and loves to steal clothes and bring them into her crate. She loves other dogs, ignores cats, and thinks the sun rises and sets when you smile at her. After all she has been through she is truly a happy girl that will steal your heart.
